This second form of Janos that appears in the game actually is the first way the player comes upon him. He's been dead for a long time, his heart removed from his body. The quest will be to revive him. This being a direct sequel to the previous game, Soul Reaver 2, his end was met in a very gruesome way, his chest sliced open and his heart removed while he lived through it all. As such, this is a very gruesome look to his corpse. While technically dead, his curse of immortality as a vampire means as long as his heart still beats, his body remains preserved and his soul bound to it. So, no decay, and even the blood is pretty fresh, as if it just happened. While still a pretty fresh-looking kill, I wanted to show that the blood soaked through his clothing and dissipated in spots across his skin, as liquid does when it runs over and down a surface. The look to his flesh is not quite human. It's a little darker and goes toward purple, instead of straight reds. This is even more apparent on the flesh of Kain that I also render, as his line of vampires are truly undead and born of necromancy.
